Salmos 64

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:

A metáfora de 'línguas como espadas' aparece em outros salmos (sl57:4; sl59:7), refletindo a violência verbal comum em contextos de perseguição política ou pessoal, como as que Davi enfrentou de Saul e outros inimigos.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

Ataques 'em lugar oculto' eram comuns em conspirações palacianas do Antigo Oriente Médio. A integridade do perseguido contrasta com a covardia dos opressores, tema recorrente nos salmos de lamento.
They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?

A ilusão de que 'ninguém os verá' ecoa sl10:11 e sl94:7, mostrando uma mentalidade ateia prática mesmo em sociedades teocráticas. A expressão 'armar laços' remete a tramas políticas (et2:21-23; et6:11-12).
They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them , and the heart, is deep.
But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.

A imagem de Deus como arqueiro divino aparece em sl7:12-13 e lc3:12-13. Na cultura militar da época, a flecha repentina simbolizava juízo inevitável, diferente dos combates frontais.
So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.

A autodestruição pelo próprio discurso maligno é princípio proverbial (pv12:13; sl7:15-16). Na história israelita, isso se cumpriu em casos como Hamã (et7:10) e Acabe (1rs22:34-38).
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
The righteous shall be glad in the LORD , and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

A alegria do justo perseguido antecipa ensinos do NT sobre perseverança (rm5:3-5; tg1:2-4). A expressão 'retos de coração' alude à integridade total, não apenas ritual (sl15:2; sl78:72).
