A Song of degrees.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

A referência aos montes pode estar ligada a locais de culto pagão (como os 'lugares altos' em deut12:2). O salmista questiona ironicamente se sua ajuda viria desses locais, rejeitando idolatria.
My help cometh from the LORD , which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

A negação de que Deus 'dorme' contrasta com mitos cananeus onde deuses como Baal entravam em sono profundo (1reis18:27). Afirma a vigilância contínua de Yahweh.
The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

A 'sombra à direita' simboliza proteção imediata (posição de honra militar). A imagem reaparece em sal16:8 e sal109:31, reforçando o cuidado pessoal de Deus.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

Sol e lua eram adorados como deuses no antigo Oriente Médio. O verso desmitifica esses astros, subordinando-os ao controle divino (apo7:16 repete essa simbologia de proteção escatológica).

A promessa de proteção 'de todo mal' gera debate: como conciliar com o sofrimento de justos (Jó)? Alguns interpretam como proteção espiritual final, não física imediata.
