A Psalm of Asaph.

1O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.

Refere-se à destruição de Jerusalém e do Templo, provavelmente pelos babilônios em 586 a.C. (2Reis25:8-10). A menção de 'gentios' (nações estrangeiras) invadindo a 'herança' de Deus reforça o contexto da invasão babilônica, que deixou a cidade em ruínas.
