Salmos 60

To the chief Musician upon Shushan-eduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand.

O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

Este salmo nos dá informe sobre o reinado do Davi que não aparecem nos livros 1 e 2 Smamuel nem em 1 e 2 Crônicas. Embora o marco deste salmo se encontra em 2 Smamuel 8, essa passagem não faz referência alguma ao feito de que as forças do Davi enfrentaram uma grande resistência (60.1-3) e inclusive, aparentemente, uma derrota temporária (60.9, 10). A verdade é que quanto mais nos aproximamos de Deus, com mais força nos atacará o inimigo porque nos voltamos uma ameaça para seu estilo de vida de maldade e egoísmo.
Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

Em lugar de vinho de bênção, Deus lhes deu a taça de seu julgamento. O rechaço de Deus tentava levá-los de novo para O.
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.

Davi mencionou às nações inimizades que rodeavam ao Israel. Moab estava diretamente para o este, Edom para o sul e Filistéia para o oeste. No momento em que Davi escreveu este salmo, brigava contra Síria no norte. Apesar de que estava rodeado de inimigos, Davi confiou em que Deus o ajudaria a vencer.
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
