To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

A expressão 'Deus de Jacó' reforça a ideia da aliança divina com o povo de Israel, remetendo às promessas feitas ao patriarca em Gn 35:10-12. O nome de Deus era visto como uma extensão de seu poder protetor.
Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;

Sião, originalmente a fortaleza de Jerusalém, tornou-se símbolo da morada divina após a construção do Templo (2Cr 3:1). O socorro vindo do santuário reflete a crença na interação entre o culto terrestre e o plano celestial.
Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

O 'ungido' (messias em hebraico) era inicialmente uma referência aos reis de Judá. Cristãos veem aqui uma profecia messiânica cumprida em Jesus (Mt 16:16), enquanto judeus interpretam no contexto histórico dos reis davídicos.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

A crítica à dependência de carros de guerra (comum em nações como Egito e Assíria) contrasta com a confiança em Deus. Arqueólogos encontraram restos de estábulos reais em Megido (século IX a.C.), comprovando o uso massivo de cavalaria militar.
They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
Save, LORD : let the king hear us when we call.

O clamor 'Salva-nos' (Hosana em aramaico) era usado em rituais reais, mas ganhou novo significado no NT durante a entrada de Jesus em Jerusalém (Mt 21:9). A menção ao rei mantém ambiguidade entre o governante terreno e a expectativa messiânica.
