Salmos 13

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD ? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

O salmista expressa um lamento comum na Bíblia: a sensação de abandono divino (comparar com sl22:1, citado por Jesus em mt27:46). A expressão 'esconder o rosto' remete ao conceito de juízo divino (dt31:17-18) ou afastamento ritual (is59:2).
How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

'Ilumina meus olhos' pode ser interpretado como: 1) cura física (1sm14:27-29), 2) renovação espiritual (ef1:18) ou 3) prevenção da morte (jó33:30). A imagem do 'sono da morte' aparece também em sl7:5 e jo11:11-13.
Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

A mudança abrupta do lamento para a confiança é característica dos salmos de súplica. Alguns estudiosos sugerem que o versículo marca uma revelação divina durante a oração, enquanto outros veem uma decisão consciente de fé apesar das circunstâncias (comparar com hc3:17-18).
