7Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

O verso se refere ao Êxodo do Egito e à travessia do Mar Vermelho (Êxodo 14). A 'provocação' alude à falta de fé dos israelitas diante do exército egípcio, mesmo após verem os milagres de Deus.
