Jeremias 40

4And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Jeremías era livre de ir aonde quisesse. Em Babilônia teria tido grandes comodidades e poder. No Judá, seguiria enfrentando dificuldades. Em Babilônia, o teriam favorecido os babilonios, mas odiado pelos cativos do Judá. No Judá permaneceria pobre e ninguém o quereria, mas o remanescente do Judá saberia que não era um traidor. Retornou ao Judá.

6Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

Mizpa estava a poucos quilômetros ao norte de Jerusalém. Serve como refúgio depois da destruição de Jerusalém, já que os babilonios não a destruíram por completo.
