Jeremias 39

1In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.

Sedequías, filho do rei Josías e último rei do Judá, governou onze anos, desde ano 597 até 586 a.C. Os dois irmãos maiores do Sedequías, Joacaz e Joacim, e seu sobrinho Joaquín governaram antes que ele. Quando levaram ao Joaquín ao cativeiro em Babilônia, Nabucodonosor pôs ao Matanías, de vinte e um anos de idade, como rei, trocando seu nome ao Sedequías. Este se rebelou contra Nabucodonosor, quem o capturou, matou a seus filhos diante dele e logo o deixou cego e o levou de retorno a Babilônia onde mais tarde morreu (vejam-se 2 Rseis 24; 2 Crônicas 36; Jeremías 52).
