1The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

Ao Egito, nação que escravizou ao povo de Deus durante quatrocentos anos (Exodo 1), odiava-a o povo do Israel. Mesmo assim, Judá estava considerando a idéia de aliar-se ao Egito contra Assíria (2Ki 18:17ss). Entretanto, Isaías lhe advertiu contra esta aliança devido a que Deus destruiria a Assíria em seu tempo.
