Gênesis 11

4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

A torre de Babel foi um grande lucro humano, uma maravilha do mundo. Mas era um monumento dedicado às pessoas mesma e não a Deus. Às vezes construímos monumentos a nós mesmos (roupas caras, uma grande casa, um automóvel luxuoso, um trabalho importante) para chamar a atenção. Isto pode não ser mau em si, mas quando os usamos para nos gabar e nos glorificar, tomam o lugar de Deus em nossas vidas. Somos livres para nos desenvolver, mas não para pensar que substituímos a Deus. O que torre construiu você em sua vida?

9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
