Deuteronômio 29

18Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Moisés acautelou que o dia que os hebreus decidissem dar as costas a Deus, plantaria-se uma raiz que produziria fruto amargo (veja-se Hb 12:15). Quando decidimos fazer algo que de antemão sabemos que está mau, plantamos uma semente de maldade que começa a crescer fora de controle, e à larga produz uma colheita de arrependimento e dor. Mas podemos acautelar que essas sementes de pecado joguem raízes. Se você tiver feito algo mau, confesse-o imediatamente a Deus e a outros. Se a semente não encontrar chão fértil, seu fruto amargo nunca maturará.

20The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
